I love this machine. But I think its worth it. Just gave my older machine to my son and bought my second. Very durable and makes the best cup of coffee I've had anywhere.I like using a fine grind with this.Filters are expendsive but I buy 6 at a time through Amazon and don't really notice it.
Anxious to try the taste after all these wonderful reviews - I was sadly disappointed. Tired of that, went in search of a new machine. I will experiment using more coffee grinds. The instruction manual does not mention that rubber thing at all so it may be coincidence that it worked after all. My coffee is good but who wouldn't want to try better. The flavor is THIN, not full bodied. Too bad Cook's Essentials no longer makes coffee machines.
While the Krups flavor was not bad, it was not better than my old machine. So I paid a premium for the Krups with So, So results - oh Well. Krups customer service said I did every right and it must be broken. So I have to use a weight to hold it down while it brews. Read the wonderful reviews on the Moka Brew and couldn't wait to get it. I kept playing with it and pressed a rubber button looking thing in the water tank and after a few tries it finally started working.
This morning I tried a taste test between the 2 machines measuring everything exactly the same including the cream and amount of coffee in each cup. The people writing these great reviews must have had terrible coffee makers before. The lid to the grinds chamber no longer locks down on my 9 year old Cook's Essentials machine from QVC. It arrived very quickly yesterday and the heating element did not work. Still the Cook's Essentials was noticeably better.
See ya. Get this one. It makes a kind of Italian style coffee, sort of like an Americano, or with halfandhalf like a really tasty cappuccino. Come to think of it, I think I'll buy another and put it away, just in case. It will make you forget Starbucks.
I am salivating thinking of tomorrow morning. Don't buy a prettier color or one with a timer or one with a built-in grinder or a cheaper one or a more expensive one. It will make you suddenly love getting out of bed in the morning even if you've always hated it. This particular Krups model will make you feel like a world champion barista. Do yourself a favor and get a Moka Brew.
I did and if it ever breaks I pray Krups is still making it.
This brews a perfect cup of coffee. then you end up with 2 filters. And today I see that not only does Amazon carry the filters, they have a replacement carafe, which I jumped on just in case I break mine. I LOVE this coffeemaker. And as to filters, I would get #2 cone filters and cut to size.
Hate the waiting time; at least 10 minutes once it gets up to temperature. Treat your glass carafe like gold.
Rip off. The manufacturer gives you some line about each carafe being specifically made for each lid.
The ONLY way that Krups will sell you a replacement carafe is with the entire 2 piece lid to the tune of $43. Good coffee; not worth $100 + $43 + another $43 and so on.
Love the coffee. What is the absolute worst: I broke the carafe.
I don't believe it, and even if I did, I will not replace the carafe again if it breaks.
